Our approach to creating a Geothermal heating and cooling system for an existing home in Minnesota.
Step #1: Phone Conversation
- The first set in the Geothermal retro process is a phone conversation.
- Answer any preliminary questions.
- Talk about what the goals and concerns are for their new geothermal heating & Cooling system.
- What the current heating and cooling system is in the home, home location etc.
- Customer goals and expectations
Step #2: Site Visit
- This visit is to collect information and confirm a Geothermal system will work on the property.
- During this visit we’ll measure the home exterior walls, doors, windows, and ceiling heights.
- Determine the R-Values on the walls and attic.
- Construction of the windows to determine a U-Value.
- Measure existing ductwork to determine air flow.
- Determine if there are any improvements needed for the ductwork to better deliver the air to the living space.
- Measure mechanical room space.
- Location and size of the electrical service
- Location of the mechanical room inside the home and the best loop field location in the yard.
- Answer all questions and concerns regarding the installation with the customer.
Step #3: Design
- Once the site visit is complete the information is brought back to our office and an accurate heat loss and heat gain calculation is done
- With this information we know the amount of heating or cooling Btu’s needed to condition the home.
- We then enter this information in a sizing software to select the best model and size of Geothermal system needed to optimize the comfort and savings for the customer.
- We can then determine the annual heating and cooling costs of the current system and also a new Geothermal heating & Cooling system based on an average year.
- We then look at the loop field design, what the soil conditions are in the area to determine the best loop field for the property.
- Once the size of the Geothermal system is determined we can then price the Geothermal heating system for the customer.
- Once the Geothermal heating system price is determined we then plug in our Geothermal system cost along with the annual operating cost for both their existing system and the new Geothermal Heating & Cooling system to see the payback and return on investment.
Step #4: Proposal Meeting
- The last step of the process is meeting with the customer again for an in-depth informational explanation of the system and the proposal for the Geothermal Heating & Cooling system. Once we have answered all the homeowner questions, we’ll follow up with the customers in a week to see if they have any additional questions that may have arisen.
- Note: We do not do high pressure sales; we allow the customer to make an informed decision on their heating and cooling system at their own pace.
